"...I have always disliked the Awards of Merit and even more so the Select Awards and thought they detracted from the importance of the final winners. I no longer believe that and am now a fan of these placements...
...The Roughs were a pleasure to judge, as is any quality entry, but this time it ran deeper. As those who were there are well aware, the final judging for BOV was at the same time fun and challenging. I had four dogs out, including my two Veterans, well-known by me and among my favorite Collies of all time: Ch. Barksdale Lochlaren Liaison, ROM and Ch. Rosebank Lochlaren Keep It A Secret, the latter being my Winners Bitch when I last judged the National and who went on the take BOB after that show. Ringside was urging me on a bit as I contemplated the four, and I responded, "This is not easy." It was not! My heart was with the veterans, but as I looked, the spotlight was on the two younger dogs in their prime. Youth was not to be denied."

"American Bred Rough Bitches: This large class was very deep in quality with many lovely bitches and not enough ribbons. The first place went to Countryview Broadway Starr, a lovely sable bitch who on my first look down the line had everything going for her. Her eye was absolutely correct-the shape, the placement, the color and the radiant sweet expression. She had a lovely balanced head from every angle...light and clean with length that balanced her body. The skull was flat and filled, the muzzle full and round and the lipline was tight. She was sound and balanced in body and her gait was effortless."

"Winners Bitch Rough: I wondered as I flew home from the CCA how I could describe in words the way I felt when I turned around and took my first look at my Winners Bitch Class. All I can say is it was a totally incredible experience seeing all that quality in one place at the same time..."
"My eye was drawn to the American-Bred bitch with her elegant feminine outline, balance and expression. Countryiew Broadway Starr had a beautifully shaped and correctly placed dark eye. The head planes were just right with a correct stop and no depth of head. Every part of her was in harmony and balance-flowing smoothly from one part to the next-and it showed in her movement and the picture she made. She had great showmanship, was beautifully presented and a perpetual smile on her face-it was her day!"
